The Arches

A lovely two-acre lake abounding with features, The Arches offers exceptional carp and tench fishing with the average carp in the high doubles and a number of 'Old Warhorse' commons and mirrors.

In addition there are also some fairly heafty specimen pike to 30lbs plus outstanding roach and perch with some of the perch going to a fine 4lbs. Now reserved exclusively for residents, a spell on The Arches is highly recommended and very convenient for those staying in The Arche Caravans.

Birch Pool

Hidden away amongst the trees at the far side of Lonsdale Lake is the smallest of the Lonsdale Park waters, the three-peg Birch Lake. A small but well stocked pool which is ideal for novices and children, Birch holds abundant carp to 4lb as well as good stocks of tench, roach and gudgeon.

At a quarters of an acre in size and only three-feet deep, it holds nothing bigger than 10lb to 15lb and is usually float fished with maggots. Because it has a clay bottom it is usually very coloured, which often makes bright baits more effective.  Don't dismiss this small pool in the past it has produced match winning catches in the high teens.

Deer Lake

As with all Lonsdale Park's waters Deer Lake is a mature tree lined pool. The long arm by Lonsdale Lake forms part of the original clay workings. The spur at the far end was dug in 2001 and offers a change in character, providing reeds, lillies & shelter for both fish & wildlife. Totalling 1.5 acres, this tree shaded mysterious pool haunted by monster tench & carp as well as quality roach, chub, perch & crucians. A haven for float anglers - but don't be surprised if you encounter the occassional crucian!

Reed Mere

Perfect for the specimen hunter, Reed Mere is a former nature reserve of two-and-a-half acres and features many secluded reedy bays which hold specimen carp to over 30lbs, as well as abundant specimen tench, perch, roach and large pike and a catfish. Good head of leviathan pike, making it an ideal winter fishing location.

An ideal stalking lake, Reed Mere is a haven for wildlife. Of particular interest to carp anglers are the eight fish which were bought from a syndicate and which are related to 'Clarissa', the 44lb common carp with which Richard Walker established a new British record in 1952.  It is not unusual to fish Reed Mere and not see another person all day.
