This is Paul, he's the proud owner of Lonsdale Park.
A keen angler from a very young age, Paul served his time as a joiner before running his own building business.
A successful entrepeneur Paul found himself in the position to be able to fulfil a childhood dream - his own fishery.
In 1997 Paul purchased the first plots of land that you see today as Lonsdale Park, with some small unfished ponds choked with Canadian pond weed and one home to a Ford Anglia. Alot of hard work and 2 years later Lonsdale Park as you know it today was starting to emerge.
Paul recieved help and advice from George Shaman during the early stages of the park and it is with great appreciation that we attribute our healthy fish stocks, and general philosophy to him (more on that below).
Paul is a traditional angler, favouring split cane and centre pins reels, and is often found on a summer evening in the pursuit of 'Walter' - a very big, very old, very clever carp.
In his spare time Paul enjoys tinkering with old cars, especially Landrovers!

This is Emma, Paul's eldest daughter.
Emma takes after her Dad, and has been an angler since the time she could hold a small whip pole. Emma grew up on the site (having known it since she was 7) and was often found collecting up discarded weights, hooks and lengths of line to cobble onto a willow withy to produce her own fishing poles. Nowadays, like her Dad she prefers the creak of split cane, and the whirr of a centre pin, particularly enjoying Roach fishing with a lovely Avon with emerald green whippings, restored by friend and angler of Lonsdale Park Wally Sewell.
Emma is the one responsible for the blog page - where catches, news, stories and special offers can be found. Currently away studying to be vet at University Emma also maintains the website - but this sometimes gets away from her.
In her spare time Emma enjoys watching the Parks wildlife and taking photo's - you can see some of them on the flora and fauna page.
Lonsdale Park is the site of the old Lonsdale Brick and Tile Works, which was owned by the Lonsdale Family. Many parts of the site date back beyond 1869.
The site is set over flat ground, and features excellent paths throughout, something which is often remarked on by our guests is how easy it is to access our waters, no uphill hikes here!
The ponds are old clay pits, so often have a rich colour - especially when the fish are feeding!
Some under water features are remnants of the ponds industrial heritage, and are marked on our site map.
Lonsdale Park is also a SSSI, which is a site of special scientific interest, designated by Natural England. This accolade is a result of the careful conservation work which has encouraged and preserved a wide variety of wildlife, with many rare birds and orchids found onsite. For more details on the wildlife check out the flora and fauna page.
You'll also find occasional wildlife stories on Emma's blog!
Our Philosophy:
We believe in the Golden days of angling, and that they are not over yet!
Here at Lonsdale we try and preserve a little of the spirit of Sir Isaac, whilst offering our guest all modern luxury's.
We believe that angling is good for the soul and the mind, and are particularly keen to encourage young, new, and disabled anglers.
If you find yourself reading Chris Yates, Tom O'Reilly, Arthur Ransome, George Shaman, Archie Bradocks, and of course Bernard Venables, you'll be right at home here.
And if you don't but you like us then we're sure you'll appreciate these authors too!
